Brian doesn't like my old work

Brian Doesn't seem to be a fan of my other creations. She's been very annoyed by my Gardevoir Drawing spree, and now when I try to do a sketch of one of my really old characters she feels the need to express her disdain for it.
Ten years of can make a lot of difference, though, can't it. That character there was designed entirely off the Nike symbol. This was back when I couldn't draw faces so I just made their faces visors- it's not a mask, the visor were their faces. Also I drew their hands as black globs (or their arms were crossed as shown here).

Still, I think Brian's being a little too hard on her Predecessors. 10 years from now it could be her being scoffed at.

Today on sketchblog... Not a sketch

Ok, I was kind of busy today, what with buying Pokemon Pearl for Barrytoon and Participating in a baseball game that led a very long night.

So anyway Todays post is going to be a writing... yeah!

Once upon a time there was a girl named Alice who hated narrators. Oh, she was not happy at all whenever a narrator was on the scene describing how she would get up from her modest little bed, and brush her teeth until the bristles wore out. And she most certainly didn't like how the narrator made this sound: "Criaunch!" "Criaunch!" as she chewed her morning breakfast of Dry cereal and milk. Why if there was ever a girl who hated narrators more than Alice than I imagine you haven't read about her because that would be just too much for any Narrator to handle.

But on this particular day, Alice was showing a great deal of disdain for the current narrator as he told the story you are reading right now... oh dear... Um, in fact she was so distraught that she decided the best thing to do was to take a walk to clear her head, to which she became more angry at the narrator... because he was narrating her walk...

She pushed those thoughts aside as she tried to clear her head, and as she cleared her head she discovered a trail of thought that made her think about how no matter how many times she murders off the narrators another one seems immediately to take his place...
...
wait WHAT!?

...
...
Um... ... ...She realized the only way to stop this once and for all was to scare the narrator away so that he could live to tell the other narrators to stay away, and if that didn't work and the narrator was still there long enough to narrate this very thought, then she would just have to make an example of hi-

More of this outlineless Flash art

Two Post in one day! Yeah.
More practice with this fun little style. It does have a strong effect to it, but it makes it really awkward for specific styles... BBB, I think needs those thick outlines, though. This style Relies too much on heavy lighting... might be good to implement once the storyline gets much more confrontational and challenging for the heroes and their rabbit.

In all honesty I have no idea how BBB is going to ease from it's situational comedy to what it will become, but that's probably what Excites me most about it. It's like that feeling when you start watching an Epic series by first seeing a part of the middle of it, then starting from the beginning, and all the while thinking "Now how did they get from here to what I saw in Episode 60?"
Do not mistake this for when the Series starts off with a Teaser scene like a detective with his face dead in the gutter. That isn't the kind of set up I'm talking about. What I'm talking about is the audience discovering the plot through their own means.

So Now I'm in an almost Backward Situation, where I know where the plot is, I've been given the direction it should take, but now I need to turn it that way myself, as apposed to discovering what is already there. Fun stuff. Glad your along for the ride, too.

Mythical May: Pokemon Cross Breeding

Have you every wondered how you can breed Pokemon of two different species just by leaving them at a daycare?
Well it so happens that the Daycare has an Open Bar...

I'm doing a full comic with this joke, and one of the panels will be that picture right there. Now I know I said I wouldn't use this style for Flash anymore, and said it didn't work well with flash, but darn if it does have a good style to it, and the lack of outlines make the boarders a lot cleaner.

What d'ya know, I'm alive!

Ok, I know this is supposed to upload Daily, but I wanted some Breathing room for Legend of Luik. So, here's a bunch of sketches I've been holding back on:This is a work in progress, I have six other pictures to do and then I collage them together in a very specific way. I think this one will be interesting.
One thing I learned about drawing Brian, is I have to know what makes her look ugly in order of her to look adorable.
Gothevoirs Back and she's hungry for Sushi, and her torso's fixed... now If I could just get the waist right...
Decided to some stuff from BBB2... I'm sorry to say I only just picked this back up yesterday, but I will put more focus on it.

Anyway I'll be posting daily again from here on.

Legend of Luik Beta

(please note that, because of the size of the movie and method I'm desplaying it in right now, this movie goes out of sinc' with the sound after a few minutes)

Well Ladies and Gentlemen... all three of you. Here it is. This is what I have done of this project so far. It is a version that is completed from beginning to end, and it is easily the longest project I've every worked on.

It's also the only time I've ever done something that wasn't meant to be funny. It still me making this, so the style should be recognizable, but this is really the first Serious thing I've ever managed to complete (as soon as I complete it.)

As such, Feedback is Vital in this one folks. I'll letting this sit for a few months before I bring it to newgrounds so I'll have plenty of time for any finishing touches I need to do, or any changes you may recommend (that I feel I should follow through with).

Lost Projects: The Bard's Song

Legend of Luik will be showing up very soon, and I thought I'd look back on the history of it a bit, by honoring a project that essentially sacrificed itself in order for legend of Luik to Flourish: My version of the Bards song.

Both the Bard Song and Legend of Luik go back to when I first discovered newgrounds in '03 and was catching up on all it had to offer. One of the things I stumbled on were the flash cartoons by Charlie Zero. Overall, I didn't like his work, especially the Mourner, but I believe we were already over that. Still, many of his projects did seem to have a lot of potential, or at least something that really provoked me to think them over quite a bit and form my own take on them. Those two cartoons in particular were the Bard song and My Angel

If you'll notice, "My Angel" is essentially a storyboard for a very basic, but generally appreciatively little fable, and it was begging to be fully animated. For a long time, that lay in the back of my mind.

My more Ambitious idea was a full on reinterpretation of the Bard Song, where the bard who narrates the story to his audience, turns out to have been one of the victims of the story he told (victim in an emotional sense). He is also a very Ignoble and bloodlustful Villian, which becomes appearent after he finishes his story around the bodies of those he slaughtered during his tune. He is confronted then by a different hero and the two fight with no clear winner at the end. It all tied well with the lyrics to the song, and I felt it would be a pretty good project.

I wasn't sure I wanted to start it on flash at the time, so I had started mainly by doing a lot of concept sketches for how the scenes would play out.

I also did a little concept sketching for the My Angel Remake (but we can get to that in another post.)

My first hurdle was hit whilst storyboarding the first scene and I realized I had no concepts for how the bard should look.

Some designes were worked out, but I began to realize that at that time I was far to limited in my talents to produce the truly insane look I was going for...

I'd say my biggest problem was I just didn't know where to draw the muscle Straining in the right places. I couldn't get the right emotions out of his face, and I had no idea where to find out how to do that. Regardless, I whipped up more designs for the bard characters anyway...
Here we see a much older looking bard, I felt if I couldn't draw him crazy, I could always work on his aged and fading style. It still didn't look right, but I decided to address that problem when I actually start the animating.
This was going to be one of the knighs who tries to kill the other. In this case though, He's a simple blacksmith who is out to avenge his family or something.
This would be the other knight... honestly I probably wasn't going to have him look like that, but I need to start somewhere. As I said this project was probably outside of my limits at the time. Even though it was an adaption of another project it still needed a vast amount of development I wasn't aware of.

The Summer of 2003 became the Summer of 2005 and by this time I had gotten my new computer and was ready to start some much bigger flash projects, starting with the Bard song. However as I searched for the song I became aware of a lot of the Lyrics in the song that just did not work, and in that light I became aware how flawed my interpretation of the song was. I decided not to pursue it any further. besides, there were already 2 other projects that had remade the Bard song, it just wasn't worth working on anymore.

Instead, I started on the full version of my Angel, but by this time, the concept had already drifted much much farther than Charlie Zero's Storyboard, and it would eventually lose enough of it's evidence of it's inspiration that the name "My angel" or variations of that were no longer right. And from that it got the title Legend of Luik.

Thus Bards song bowed out of the spotlight for a project that proved to have much more potential.

This style not recomended for flash

What I have learned today is this. When working on a program that works on vector outlines, it may be best to keep with an art style that also uses outlining and not just brushing over.

Still it got a fun effect for "God of Voir" And it helps with backgrounds.

Krill Dozer

Drill Dozer was a fun game, probably the last great GBA game that wasn't a port of a hit SNES RPG. Anyway as apart of my recent Poke-elf Drawing spree I couldn't help but notice how much a Kirlia could pass for Jill (the lead character of Drill Dozer.

Here's a comparasign. Pretty similar if you use the Kirlia 's horns creatively. Anyway drawing that pose helped a little with my off perspectives. I don't know if you guys know this, but skewed Perspectives are definitely my biggest hurdle lately.

Tis Maybe a Succubus

Today on Mythical May... the Succubus:

I don't really have anything to say regarding the Succubus... end.

Not much of a sketch today. I kinda think the dialogue for this was a little amusing. I was watching a little sorcerer hunters yesterday for old time sake, which is why Sean's acting like a bit of a chivalrous skirtchaser.

I'm wasting my time AND yours!

Hey guess what I'm uploading today? "Not the Next Mythical may" is correct!

Because instead of working on that picture for mythical may at all I spent the entire day finishing up this animation here (and playing Ninja Gaiden NES):

Kind of ridiculous, huh? Not that I still haven't gotten that one sketch completed, but the fact that it's such a ridiculously high priority for me. This is what happens when I make stupid promotions for my blog and fill it with empty promises that jerk everyone around.

Anyway that Animation taught me a good deal. I think that's the first Time I've ever been satisfied with the way I drew someone walking. Another first is I drew a pretty decent profile of a more human chin. On that note, I'll leave it to you guys to judge who and what the girl is, because this will more or less remain a one shot animation and will not be continued further. In fact it probably would have made more sense if I just used a gardevoir, but I was too happy with the drawing.

Maybe I'm trying to ease my way out of Drawing these elves...
I mean Sheesh, I just suddenly Wipped into drawing these guys and now It's practically every day. I'm focusing more on these guys than I did Zelda stuff over the past few years.

Psudo sketcho

I'm too lazy to finish this by tonight... so here' a sketch of what I have to far of the Next part of Mythical May. It's about my theory on why all pokemon lay eggs, even though some probably shouldn't

Brian Jumps a shark

Quick sketch of our favorite heroine jumping a shark. No, not THE shark as in the shark that ruins whatever long running thing is jumping him, it's a just a random shark (with a disneyduck wing in it's teeth).

This ones almost completely framework which I still don't exactly know how to do, but I'm getting better at at. If you notice though, I completely shifted the head to a bit, in fact a lot of this is a little sloppy perspective wise, however I managed to pull it off really quickly so if I can keep up drawing at this minium of quality, I can get some decent flashwork done in the future.

Also, If I hadn't drawn this Picture of Brian, she would have Killed Gardevoir. She had a mallet to the girl's head! Brian isn't joking around, she's not happy sharing my animation attention with her.

Ninja Elves... Teenage Mutant Ninja Elves!

Ok, so there not Mutants and you can argue their not elves, but they are Teenage Ninjas and by this time you should know that That I refer to Gardevoir and Company as elves as elves.

So here's the Uchiha Clan as Gallades and Gardevoir. Man it was tough drawing all those members of the Uchiha clan, that is just too populated a family.

I was going to throw in some other Naruto Characters as other pokemon, but my idea for Naruto was already done. I guess Naruto as an Abra was pretty obvious.

I also had an idea for Hinata and Neji as Mew and Mewtwo. It worked on so many levels, but as you can see from this picture of Hinata here it just didn't work.
I would have added Hinata's Hair, but I wanted to keep it with her being an actual Mew and not a "Furry." After all, Mythical May as about creative accuracy, not easy shortcuts....

Speaking of Mythical May, I need to pick that back up, don't I. A bunch of silly Pokemon Fanart doesn't Count. Ok, there will be a New Mythical May submission tomorrow, but I'm still in a Pokemon mood...

Goth-evoir

Heh heh... ok, remember those Pokemon I drew a few days back... well they had a child and I kid you not, she's as goth as a pokemon can get.

Once again, of course I messed up on the darn Gardevoir's torso... If I can figure out how to draw these guys perfectly it'll probably help a lot with the way I draw girls in general... well, maybe not, but I have to find some excuse to draw them (my character Brian has been getting very angry about all the time I've wasted on these elves).

Also Here are some fun Link Sketches for a little fanfic Archive I just made:

There's no sketch today... it didn't turn out right, and normally I would still show it, but this was beyond acceptable. Never speak of it.

Clothed Pokemon

Instead of a post with a sketch for Mythical May, I've enclosed a comic I spent a few days on.

This theory that Clothes must be changed after an evolution does take liberty to the fact that this is never addressed in the game or the show. But I don't think it's entirely too out there.
I'm not done with the Pokemon Concepts though, especially with the Elf Pokemon. It'll get pretty interesting. Stay tuned.

Something to tide you over

I had something bigger planned, but I didn't finish it, so Here's something to tide you over... although this crab isn't so thrilled about the tide being over him...

He's screaming about the Pun, not about being deluged (which shouldn't even be a problem for him.)

Anyway, this blog is supposed to be about quick sketches anyway, so I guess I shouldn't be making these big plans. My bad.

The Worst Jesse's Girl Music Video ever!

Jeremy Had me help him on a Video Project as a present for a friend of his. Jeremy can be quite persuasive in getting us to do this kind of stuff, so he's kind of the Producer of our team, he really is.
With this project though, he just wanted to get it done. It was a hot day, we were tired, we barely had an idea of what we were doing, and we were intending it to be cheesy and terrible anyway. The result is quite possibly the worst thing I have ever done (and I say that proudly by the way).

The other person in this video is my little brother. He was also in some of the christmas movies did last year.
(and there will be a sketch today, so don't worry 'bout that.

The Team is almost formed

Another quick sketch... not too bad though.
As I stated earlier, I've gotten my hands on Pokemon for the first time, and I've already begun forming my first team. My two big players so far are a male Misdreavous and a female Kirlia- Both of which I could not get in the game without trading, (especially not the kirlia) So I feel as if these two are breakers of the system, which is why take such notice to them... and also I've become a big elf Pokemon fan over the last month.

The Kirlia I've been training from a level 4 Ralts. She shot up 26 levels over two day by taking on oppenents twice as strong as her... and losing constantly, but it was worth it to see win all those times.
I'm halfway through the game now so wish me luck. Oh, and heads Up, I'll be doing a lot more Gardevoir Sketches soon.

Oh yeah, and if ya wanna swap Friend codes, contact me, or just leave a comment.

BACK PAIN!

I think I pulled something a few days ago, and it's been driving me crazy. I don't have a sketch today (save that cruddy drawing).

don't worry it's not anything serious. It's just I'm on my feet a lot during the day, and I tend to wear my belt a little too tight, so when this stuff happens It gets to be a bitch at the end of the day. I'll be over it by Saturday.

Mythical May: Wingalings part 2

First of all, Blasphemy has been committed as the bleach anime no longer features Shinigami'zu Cup Golden and has replaced it with some little question and answer thing about hollows and arrancar.

Part 2 of Mythical May's Wingaling chapter (and I will get back to the Cyclops eventually), We look at why I really don't think bird wings work very well on people. Now for starters, there's the undeniable fact that birds have a hollow bonestructure that kind of significantly contrast to the standard mammal. Now you can take creative license to all the other reasons why a birds limb wouldn't cooperate with a human body, but the bone differences are a little too concrete for my taste.
Also consider the fact that the reason the bones need to be hollow is so the bird is light enough to fly. So really we have to remake the whole skeleton here, anyway. on this not though...

Have you ever scene a bird skeleton? Did you ever notice that big huge slab in the center of it? That's it's sternum, the bone between your ribs. Considering that birds have to lift their body weight using their wings, that means there Chest has to be as sturdy, or sturdier than their hips, they need an absurd amount of Pecs to lift that much, and as such their sternum must be 10 times larger for the muscle to attach to it.

This is my rendition of what that might look like applied to a human.

and that's not counting re-compensating for the second set of arms.
When designing a hominid with bird wings, Remember to consider these consequences.

This concludes another one of my Pet Peeves.

HAX!

I suck at time management. Oh well, Real quick Brian Sketch today... I was supposed to draw her say "HAX", but I forgot the word bubble. That's how rushed this is.

Actually that isn't a bad pick for a 2 minute sketch. Proportions fit pretty well, and it's only so so sloppy.

I've got some plans for this week, but Like I'm said I have a lot to do, and I don't manage my time very well... Hax...

Mythical May: Wingalings part 1

So, it's late. and instead of a sketch I'm just throwing in a bunch of old drawings from as far back as 6 years ago. It's all on my progressing knowledge of how Human wings should work. and the central star of this story is someone you've never heard of, Vic's brother David

David was the second person I created after Vic, and ironically is his older brother. Anyway I always had fun experimenting with this character, and one of the first things that stuck was his "Winged form."
But what I wanted to do with those wings was make them human wings. Not Gargoyle wings, or bat wings, or Demon wings, and especially not bird wings. I needed to figure out how that would work (and this early sketch was definitely not it).
Well starting with the classic Gargoyle/Demon is always a good start, but if you take away the webbing it's just two big claw things coming out of his back...
Well, if a human had wings, maybe they would look a little more like their own arms. so it should look like arms only with very long fingers and lots of webbing...
That's way too batlike though, Let's go with a little less webbing and keep with the second set of arms.
And now we have something really swell.

But we aren't done yet. After all, the body works as a whole. If you add wings, you have to make some changes here and there. We'll continue that one with Wingalings part 2 on Mythical May

More of Brian Green's storyboard sketches

Yay! Brian sketches continue. Her character is just exploding, I tell you. I'm a little worried I've aged her too much, though, Because I need to keep her tied down to 12 for a while. Still I love how her characters growing so far. I really can't wait to take this story further so I can really show how far her characters gone.

Elf Pokemon

Out of the Pokemon I've been looking into The Ralts (and it's evolutions) are the most mysterious to me.
The "species" they're classified as is vague and changes with each of their evolutions (Feeling, emotion, embrace, and blade Pokemon). So there is nothing to say exactly where the designs come from (be they something from myth and lore, or a certain kind of animal). Other than humans they don't seem to resemble anything else at all.
Their appearance is even harder to really get a hold of as they're of the few Pokemon that seem to be wearing clothes. It's hard to determine if they are or not, though, these 4 Pokemon are drawn and colored in a very simplified style where you can't tell where their clothing would end and their skin begin.

The conclusion I've come to is that they are Elves. They're the closest thing in humans other than humans themselves. And despite their civility (to the point that they used their psychic powers to constantly keep themselves elegantly weightless) they seem to be completely secluded from human society.

Makes me wonder why Gallade didn't look more like this:Wasn't sure how to draw the sword and Shield for this, but I figured I'd Keep close to it's original design. I also gave him links Shoes, because Gallade seems to be the only one of them to fully use it's feet instead of relying on psychic levitation.

Man do I talk to much on these blogs, or what?

Secret of the Cyclops Revealed! part 1

I was going to do zombies today, but I couldn't Flesh out the right details so Here's one on the Cyclops.

The Cyclops is a creatures with one eye in the center of it's face. Something as simple as that actually changes the workings of the face in so many ways it's not even funny. So it will be a lot of fun to attempt to draw one of these things. The idea of a Cyclops is said to have come from the skull of a species of elephant, not unlike this one: Now the Center socket there is actually for the Trunk, but it was mistaken for the skulls only eye socket (because the real eye sockets are small and on opposite ends).
Anyway, Using this Skull, we should be able to accuratly draw what A Cyclops would assumabley look like.
Let's start with the eye.
Hm... a problem occurs as the whole is not exactly sphere shaped... hmm... this lopsidedness seems familiar... maybe if we add another pupil and make it look like this:
Wait wait wait... I think I know what's going on here! Why don't we try tracing a muzzle around the jaw area, add some spikey hair and ears and a knows at the base of the tusks...
Now we just add a little color and-
My god! It's a prehistoric ancestor to sonic the hedgehog! We've discovered a missing link.

I seem to have gotten severely sidetracked, so I will try again with the Cyclops another day.

A rabbit with a hand Grenade..

I'll make the second "Mythical May" Tomorrow (probably do one on Zombies), but I'm going to leave for spider man 3 soon (Say in 20 minutes people on the east coast will be watching).

So Here is a rabbit I drew:
I gave him a hand grenade, and I pulled the pin out for him. Then I gave him enough knowledge to know what will happen and who had done it, but not why; I will never tell him why.

another Legend of Luik Gif

This is a gif (click on it to play the animation) from the final shot of Legend of Luik (yeah! I'm on the last shot!). It's actually just the background, so it's not just about the sun rising, but I did want to end the note on a sunrise, it's a little obvious but it's not like it's a bad decision.

...and yes, I'm just posting this because I didn't have a sketch ready today.
